Pamela Anderson makes herself small in “The Last Showgirl,” director Gia Coppola’s intimate portrait of an aging idealist hanging on to the last vestige of Las Vegas glitz in a world that has long since passed her by. Anderson, far removed from her 1990s rock star bombshell “Baywatch” babe image, plays Shelly Gardner, a dancer at a faded Vegas theater show called Le Razzle Dazzle. She sees it as an old-school Las Vegas spectacular, a sparkling celebration of “breasts and rhinestones and joy!” …The show was once 160 dancers, it’s now down to 85, and Shelly gets the news from the show’s producer, Eddie (a soft and affecting Dave Bautista), that after a few more shows it’s finished for good. It’s a bucket of cold water to Shelly, who doesn’t know what she’ll do without the show, and who has based her sense of self on the idea of glamour that comes with being a Vegas showgirl. – The Detroit News
