Celebrates female skateboarders who demand their right to grind and pop and kickflip whether the boys like it or not.
The narrative debut of documentarian Crystal Moselle (The Wolfpack), Skate Kitchen celebrates the liberation and the sisterhood that comes with skateboarding, with a mostly refreshing take on how teen girls deal with parents, boys and each other. Young phenom Rachelle Vinberg stars as Camille, a shy, bespectacled Long Islander who is nonetheless skilled and fearless. Camille discovers a pack of skater girls in Manhattan whom she sneaks off to join at the park or in the streets.
–The Wrap

“Cool, fun tribute to a group of real-life skater teens. But the wonderful thing about Skate Kitchen is how inviting it is, welcoming you into its community and showing you around with cheery spunk. Skate Kitchen is a warm movie. As a colleague articulated to me the other night, it makes you feel nostalgic for a childhood you never had. That’s a testament to how richly realized a sense of place Moselle has captured, showing here, as she did with the documentary The Wolfpack a few years back, how good she is at zeroing in on a specific group or community and assessing them fully, fairly, and on their terms.
–Vanity Fair

“Conveys the simple, exhilarating thrill of daring to claim social space, and proceeding to occupy it, with defiance and ecstatic grace.”
–Washington Post
“MOSELLE BELIEVES IN THE POWER OF GIRLS.” –Globe and Mail
