In 1968 a defector from the U.S. Army flees across the border to British Columbia where he’s sheltered by a Doukhobor family, while back in Houston his ex-girlfriend goes underground as an antiwar activist.  Their story is told through letters they write to each other but cannot send, because both are on the run. Heart of Gold features rare archival footage and protest music from the Sixties.
